As research institute of Korea National Oil Corporation, the E&P Technology Institute (EPTI) plays a vital role in training technicians and developing technologies, all of which are instrumental in achieving the strategic goal, "GREAT KNOC 3020 (increasing daily oil production to 300,000 barrels and securing 2 billion boe of total reserves by the year 2012)"
Since its inception in January 2006, EPTI has been fulfilling 4 strategic tasks, with aims to carry out M&A and improve exploration success rate, which are 1) E&P technicians training and their career management, 2) establishing efficient system for technical support, 3) project- and performance-orientedR&D, and 4) operating world-class technical information system.
Moreover, EPTI is participating in technical evaluation on projects that KNOC takes part in, with an effort to improve exploration success rate. And depending on the level of each project, this technical evaluation ranges from reservoir interpretation to production forecast.
As the first Chief of E&P Technology Institute from overseas, I will do my utmost to secure core E&P technologies by contributing skills and experiences that I have gained from major overseas oil companies. And I believe this will be conducive to placing KNOC on a solid footing upon which it becomes world-class national oil company and leads Korea in its energy independence move.
Chief of EPTI Hugh E. Rowlett Jr.
