Engineering & Construction Dept.(E&C Dept.) has been constructing stockpile facilities according to the 3 stages of the oil-storage plans of the Korean government after the two oil shocks in the 1970's. This project will be finished by 2009 and it will store a total of 146 million barrels of oil and gas.
E&C Dept. had constructed the 9 stockpile facilities through the first and second plans for a strategic petroleum reserve over the past 20 years and now it is conducting construction of 3 storage facilities to support the third plan.
KNOC discovered commercially viable natural gas reserves in southeast of the Korean peninsula, in 1998, officially named the 'Donghae-1 Gas Field'. On July 11, 2004, first production of domestic-origin gas finally started under a project based on 100% Korean technology and capital. E&C Dept. constructed the natural gas production of Vietnam 11-2 gas field based on the success of Donghae-1 Gas Field.
E&C Dept.carries out systematical procedures such as site investigation, design, construction and commissioning for safe and environment-friendly facilities. E&C Dept. strives for the best quality facilities through organizing and standardizing data and know-how accumulated over the past 25 years.
E&C Dept.is preparing to participate in the construction business of overseas petroleum storage facilities and also helping domestic construction companies to strengthen their international competitiveness and advancement in overseas markets by providing technological support. |

KNOC is fully equipped with skills to cover all project value chains for underground cavern : basic planning, feasibility study, design, construction, supervision, commissioning and operation. We successfully have been conducting the underground stockpile project.
In particular, KNOC¡¯s know-how of selecting the optimum site for a 10-story-scale storage cavern and competence to decide the optimum shape, size and design a leak prevention system, which is called water curtain system, are unrivalled in the world.
