Elephant oil field in NC174 block is located in Murzuk Basin, 800 km South of Tripoli. The block covers approximately 11,773 square kilometres(Elephant field, 46 square kilometres) in the Murzuk Basin, center-west Libya. Korea Consortium has a 4% interest, and KNOC¡Çs interest is 2%. Mellitah Oil & Gas B.V was established to operate this block.
The three parties, Lasmo-KNOC-NOC, had signed EPSA90 (Exploration Production Sharing Agreement) in Oct 90. In August 1996, Agip(Eni North Africa BV) participated in this block after acquiring the second parties' interest 1/3. In January 2001, Eni acquired Lasmo shares, and the three parties, Eni-KNOC-NOC had signed new contract (EPSA08) in June 2008.
The oil had been discovered in Feb 1999 and commercial production has been started from May 2004, 253 million barrels have been produced until Jan. 2011.
The Elephant oil field consists of 20 wells and each well produce 6~7thousand barrel per day on average.
