Operation of Company-wide Volunteering Corps
KNOC organized the KNOC Volunteering Corps in March 2006 for company-wide, systematic volunteering activities. The corps has been providing KNOC employees opportunities to actively participate in volunteering programs and activities, internalizing the value of corporate social contribution.
Social Contributions in Four Areas
To realize its vision, "Creating Value beyond Energy," KNOC is committed to social contribution programs reflecting its business features and social demands. Those programs fall into four broader categories, each named Sunshine, Global KNOC Family, Dream Future, and Happy Together, which have different targets and goals.
Sunshine for the Marginalized
KNOC has a variety of Sunshine programs to support poor local communities. The name, Sunshine, reflects the company’s identity as a public energy provider. An example of this is heating expense assistance in the form of provision of briquettes and oil product gift cards. Households whose energy bills exceed 10% of their income can benefit from the program. The project is financed with donations from employees and the same amount of money granted by the company. Besides heating expense assistance, KNCO provides poor populations with rice before important national holidays and kimchi before the winter season starts. Also, the company provides support for home improvements, including repair of boilers and medical services in cooperation with external organizations.
Global KNOC Family for Local Communities Overseas
KNOC’s overseas social contribution programs are customized to local needs. In Peru, it established a public utility foundation, SAVIA Peru Association to provide medical assistance as well as help local people stand on their own economically. The company continues to find new areas in need of help and offer necessary support through its partnerships with local non-governmental organizations.

In Vietnam, KNOC built classrooms and libraries while providing educational materials to help the communities where it operates have better educational infrastructure. Other such efforts include support for community road construction in Iraq, support for the Petroleum Institute of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, medical service in Kazakhstan, and provision of medicines and medical equipment for the local communities near Block 4 in Yemen. There are also programs for families of diverse cultural backgrounds at home. KNOC helps them pass the Korean language test and invite children of such families to a company tour, extracurricular camps, and study trips to historic or cultural places.
Dream Future for Future Professionals
KNOC has maintained diverse scholarship policies to cultivate future professionals and strengthen the human resources base in the area of oil development. The company has provided scholarships for E & P majors since 2005. In November 2006, it established a sisterhood relationship with Ulsan Technical High School and increased its assistance for the school. Scholarships have also been awarded to high school students in ten areas where the KNOC headquarters and regional offices operate across the nation since 2007.
Happy Together for Local Communities at Home
Happy Together represents KNOC’s local community services. Specific activities include educational support for children, work assistance during farming season, environmental degradation prevention in areas where stockpile bases are located, and improvement of the environment of rivers and streams. These activities are conducted based on regular communication with the local communities. In the future, KNOC will try to refine its social contribution programs to better meet the local needs, thereby fulfilling its social responsibilities.
