Climate Change Response

KNOC takes the initiative in coping with climate changes as well as actively participating in the low-carbon green growth strategies of the state government to implement a greenhouse gas and energy target control system in the public sector and establish a plan to introduce new renewable energy.

Implementation of greenhouse gas and energy target control system in the public sector

KNOC progressively implements activities to reduce greenhouse gas emission, save energy, and reduce emission by over 30% from the emission baseline (average emission from 2007 to 2009) as the organization is subject to the greenhouse gas and energy target system in the public sector in accordance with the Framework Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth and Guidelines on Operation of Greenhouse Gas and Energy Target Control System in Public Sector. Furthermore, KNOC continues improvement activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through education and workshops every year by establishing the Climate Change Response Council.

Establishment and implementation of new renewable energy development plans

KNOC establishes new renewable energy development plans to progressively cope with national policies aiming to achieve a 50% greenhouse gas reduction in the public sector by 2030 and to operate eco-friendly stockpiling sites.

Adaptation to climate change

KNOC endeavors to minimize damages through risk analysis and action plans for stockpiling sites in accordance with climate change and the increasing risk of natural disasters caused by climate change, including heavy rain and snow. KNOC established the climate change adaptation plan for the Yeosu Branch by participating in the pilot project of the Ministry of Environment related to climate change adaptation planning in 2016. Moreover, KNOC established the climate change adaptation plan (2018-2022) for all stockpiling sites in 2017 and has been implementing it.
